"..Looking to the near future, the report finds that demand for STBs will grow slightly, with unit sales reaching 275 million units by 2017. However, unit shipments are forecast to start slipping in 2018, due to Slowing growth in pay TV households, and the growing use of alternative devices, including Smart TVs and streaming multimedia devices.

SNL Kagan forecasts that total shipments of STB units will decline even further in 2018 and 2019, despite the fact that demand forecasts for STB products will remain strong in the coming years. In fact, global shipments are expected to exceed 261 million by 2020...."
