The set-top-boxes that Netgem TV provide – Netbox HD and Netbox 4K – tend to be similar to some of those supplied by rival video streaming companies like Roku (Now TV), including the usual array of premium content (sports), apps (Amazon Prime Video, hayu, Rakuten TV, YouTube etc.), live TV channels (Freeview) and catch-up content.Customers of UK ISP Origin Broadband are to be offered a new Pay TV service after IPTV supplier Netgem TV announced that it had just launched their “largest deployment deal to date” with the internet provider, which is being bundled alongside their broadband and phone packages with prices from £12.99 per month.

The TV company’s kit has already been adopted by a number of broadband ISPs (e.g. WightFibre, Gigaclear) and now the Doncaster-based provider Origin Broadband has joined their ranks. The agreement itself was first confirmed at the end of 2019 (here) but has now gone live.

ISP Origin Broadband lance un service de télévision payante au Royaume-Uni avec Netgem TV

Les clients de UK ISP Origin Broadband se verront offrir un nouveau service de télévision payante (OriginTV) après que le fournisseur d' IPTV Netgem TV a annoncé qu'il venait de lancer leur « plus gros contrat de déploiement à ce jour » avec le fournisseur d'accès Internet, qui est combiné avec leurs forfaits haut débit et téléphoniques avec prix à partir de 12,99 £ par mois.

Les décodeurs fournis par Netgem TV - Netbox HD et Netbox 4K - ont tendance à être similaires à certains de ceux fournis par des sociétés de streaming vidéo rivales comme Roku ( Now TV ), y compris la gamme habituelle de contenu premium (sport), d'applications ( Amazon Prime Video, hayu, Rakuten TV, YouTube etc.), des chaînes de télévision en direct (Freeview) et du contenu de rattrapage.

Le kit de la société de télévision a déjà été adopté par un certain nombre de FAI à large bande (par exemple WightFibre , Gigaclear ) et maintenant le fournisseur basé à Doncaster Origin Broadband a rejoint leurs rangs. L'accord lui-même a été confirmé pour la première fois fin 2019 ( ici ), mais est maintenant en ligne.

Oliver Bryssau, PDG d'Origin Broadband, a déclaré:

«Origin a connu une croissance à deux chiffres dans un marché hautement concurrentiel, et le service de télévision flexible mais de haute qualité et à faible coût fourni par Netgem était l'outil parfait pour continuer à faire avancer cette croissance.

Nous devons souligner que Origin n'est pas classé comme un réseau alternatif (altnet) car il utilise l' infrastructure sous-jacente d' Openreach et n'a pas construit d'infrastructure de ligne fixe physique qui lui soit propre.

"Netgem boss Sylvain Thevenot explains why the telco set top box maker is launching its own retail range of Freeview Play products:

One of the Soundbox HD’s big selling points is the inclusion of a year’s free Amazon Prime subscription, meaning buyers can watch big name series such as The Grand Tour and Man In The High Castle straight out of the box.

Thevenot confirmed that the offer is available to both new and existing Prime subscribers, with the second group being able to add the free 12 month period to the end of their current subscription term.

“If you think about hybrid OTT devices, from the tiny stick to much more sophisticated devices with multi-tuners and PVR, excluding Sky, there’s actually an almost equal share of connected TV devices that are sold as part of bundles from operators as there are retail.”

“We thought: ‘We’re doing a good job with the operator customers, why don’t we also tap into this because we’ve never done it’.

“There are some interesting things happening there and we’re not even playing, unlike Roku, who we increasingly see as one of our competitors, who started there in consumer but are progressively selling more in the UK through their Now TV agreement and in other markets they are starting to sell their technology – but not yet successfully in other European markets.

“We thought ‘Why don’t we go there and, quite frankly, block the road to Roku and the other American companies as much as we can?’ (in UK and other European markets)

The NetBox and Soundbox are only the start of Netgem’s new consumer range with additional products, including some with 4K support and others Thevenot gave us an early but confidential guide to, in a variety of form factors are expected to hit the shelves in the coming months.
